CommentBelongs to the Liolaemus elongatus group (fide ESPINOZA et al. 2000).

Núñez (2004) asserted that L. capillitas (Catamarca, Argentina) is a junior synonym of L.pictus major, whose provenance was misapplied; Neither Núñez (2004) nor PINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NUNEZ (2005) examined the types of L. capillitas, which have many character states that are not shared by L. pictus major (LOBO et al. 2010).
EtymologyNamed after the type locality, Spanish Capillitas, a mountain range, locality and quarry in Andalgalá department, Catamarca province, Argentina. [“...The species described here seems to conform to the pattern of restricted or local distribution because it was only found in a small region of the Cuesta de Minas Capillitas, Catamarca...”].
