Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: This species may be synonymous with L. platei. The description by Philippi 1860 is rather vague and the type locality is rather vague too (D. Pincheira-Donoso, pers. comm. 1 Aug 2014). Known from only two specimens (Pincheira-Donoso, pers. comm, 3 Apr 2017). Abundance: only known from the type specimen (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after Greek melanos (μέλανος), black + Greek pleura (πλευρά), sides or side (of a person or animal). (PHILIPPI 1860, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
