CommentBelongs to the Liolaemus elongatus group (fide ESPINOZA et al. 2000). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin auster, south; south wind; southern parts and Latin mendocinus, from Mendoza, a province in western Argentina. [“...Distribution.-Southern Mendoza province, Argentina...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
