Liolaemus cf. elongatus — SCROCCHI et al. 2010
Liolaemus cf. elongatus — TRONCOSO-PALACIOS et al. 2016
DistributionArgentina (Mendoza to Chubut, Catamarca. San Juan, La Rioja [HR 30: 116], Rio Negro), elevation 700-3000 m, Chile

Type locality: Near the Cordilleras, Territorio Chubut, Argentina
ReproductionVivparous
TypesHolotype: unlocated, originally MLP (Mus. La Plata)
DiagnosisDiagnosis. See entry of Liolaemus punmahuida.
CommentDistribution: see Minoli et al. 2013 for a map. Note that these authors restricted elongatus to the southern populations. However, they are less clear about the identity of the northern populations. The photos shown here from “Las Heras” would belong to the northern populations and thus be different from L. elongatus. In summary, the identity of the Chilean populations is controversial (Pincheira-Donoso, pers. comm., 19 July 2017).

Group: Belongs to the Liolaemus elongatus group (fide ESPINOZA et al. 2000) which includes L. antonietae, antumalguen, burmeisteri, carlosgarini, choique, crandalli, elongatus, janequeoae, quinterosi, scorialis, smaug according to Troncoso-Palacios & Ramírez-Álvarez (2021).
EtymologyNamed after Latin elongatus, prolonged, protracted. (Koslowsky, 1896, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
