Etymology | The specific epithet of this species “avilae” refers to our colleague and the first author’s PhD advisor Dr. Luciano Javier Avila, to honor him after more than fifteen years of research and teaching on the Patagonian herpetofauna. Because Dr. Avila is male, the name has to be changed to “avilai” (R. Espinoza, pers. comm. 24. Apr 2012). However, others, such as Néstor J. Cazzaniga, disagree and insist that avilae is grammatically correct (Cristian H. F. Pérez, pers. comm., 14 Aug 2019). |
