Comment | Belongs to the Liolaemus elongatus group (fide ESPINOZA et al. 2000).
Núñez (2004) asserted that L. capillitas (Catamarca, Argentina) is a junior synonym of L.pictus major, whose provenance was misapplied; Neither Núñez (2004) nor PINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NUNEZ (2005) examined the types of L. capillitas, which have many character states that are not shared by L. pictus major (LOBO et al. 2010). |
Etymology | Named after the type locality, Spanish Capillitas, a mountain range, locality and quarry in Andalgalá department, Catamarca province, Argentina. [“...The species described here seems to conform to the pattern of restricted or local distribution because it was only found in a small region of the Cuesta de Minas Capillitas, Catamarca...”]. |
