CommentSynonymy: Burt & Burt (1931) included L. lenzi in the synonymy of L. m. multiformis. Hellmich (1962) later added L. bolivianus PELLEGRIN 1909, L. variabilis PELLEGRIN 1909 and its varieties to the synonymy of L. multiformis. Laurent (1992) synonymized L. multiformis and its junior synonyms, including L. lenzi, under Liolaemus signifer signifer (DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1837). Aguilar-Puntriano et al. (2018), however, found the populations from the Bolivian Altiplano and cordilleras (their Liolaemus sp. 3) to be distinct from the Peruvian populations they identified as Liolaemus signifer. Langstroth Plotkin (2021) determined Liolaemus signifer (DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1837) to be a nomen dubium and revalidated L. lenzi as the name applicable to populations corresponding to Liolaemus sp. 3 from Bolivia, and also included populations from N. Chile and parts of the Desaguadero basin of Peru. Langstroth Plotkin (2021) revalidated L multiformis as the name applicable to the populations belonging to the L. signifer clade of Aguilar-Puntriano et al. (2018). Finally, Langstroth Plotkin (2021) formally included L. bolivianus and L. variabilis and its varieties as junior synonyms of L. lenzi.

Distribution: see map in Langstroth 2021: 124 (Fig. 6).
EtymologyBoettger (1891) named this species in honor of Heinrich Lenz (1846 – 1913), zoologist and curator of the natural history collections in Lübeck, Germany.
