Comment | Synonymy: Laspiur et al. 2024 synonymized L. cinereus with L. montanezi. Member of the darwinii group of Liolaemus. Habitat: terrestrial, dwelling on rocky gravel and sandy soil in a Monte landscape with sparse vegetation. Abundance: both cinereus and montanezi were only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). L. montanezi is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. |
Etymology | Named after Mr. Alvaro Montañez, park guard Head of the Parque Nacional San Guillermo, for his encouragement and support to all research activities in that protected area. L. cinereus was named after the Latin adjective cinereus, meaning “ash-grey”, in reference to the overall background color characteristic in this species. |
