Type locality: Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz, Argentina  
TypesHolotype: BMNH xxii.78a (renumbered 1946.8.5.70). 
CommentHybridization: Liolaemus gracilis appears to hybridize with L. bibronii.

Group: the L. gracilis species group includes up to 33 candidate species (Edwards et al. 2022). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “gracilis”, meaning small or lanky, or gracile.
