Type locality: “Pampa Chucuyo, 10 km from Parinacota (18 ̊12'S, 69 ̊15'W) SE of the Pallachata; 4,240 m, prov. Parinacota, Chile".  
TypesHolotype: MNHNC (also as DBCUCH) 564 (= Dept. Biol. Cell. Genet. Fac. Med., Univ. Chile). 
Etymologynamed after the large number and fragmented scales, “pleopholis” meaning “more scales”.
