Comment | Synonymy: LANGSTROTH 2011 concluded that Chilean L. reichei is a synonym of L. stolzmanni, and hence, that L. stolzmanni is a species endemic to Chile, not an element of the fauna of present-day Peru.
Group: The Liolaemus reichei group includes L. auditvetulaus, balagueri, reichei, insolitus, poconchilensis, torresi, chiribaya, nazca, and anqapuka -- but not stolzmanni (HUAMANI-VALDERRAMA et al. 2020).
Distribution: LANGSTROTH 2005 speculated that this species may occur in Bolivia. However, this could not be confirmed (LANGSTROTH, pers. comm. 19 April 2012). Reports from Peru actually represent L. pachecoi. The original Type locality was given as “Andes of Peru” but emended by LANGSTROTH 2011. P. reichei was reported from Chile (Antofagasta, Tarapaca), S Peru; Type locality: "Iquique". At the time of the collection of the type series (ca. 1883), Iquique was part of Peru. Reports from Peru actually represent L. poconchilensis and an undescribed from from Arequipa confused with L. insolitus (fide LANGSTROTH 2011). |
