Etymology | Named probably after the Latin adjective “luctuosus” = sorrowful or mournful, for unknown reasons. The genus Lissolepis was presumably named after the Greek lissos (smooth) plus lepis (scale), in reference to the smooth shiny scales of the type species. Derivation not stated by Peters (1873). |
