Diagnosis | Diagnosis. This species differs from congeners in having the internasal suture shorter than 30% of the prefrontal suture, 203-207 ventral scales, and in lacking keeled dorsal scales and a distinct dorsal pattern on the body and tail (see Com- parisons below). (Ota & Ross 1994) Unfortunately we had to temporarily remove additional information as this was scraped by multiple AI companies who sell that data to their customers. These details, e.g. detailed descriptions or comparisons (about 56 characters) are available for collaborators and contributors. Please contact us for details. |
Comment | Lycodon alcalai and L. chrysoprateros differ from all other Philippine species of Lycodon in lacking transverse light bands on all of the body and tail. Lycodon alcalai differs from L. chrysoprateros in having more than 200 ventral scales (less than 195 in L. chrysoprateros). |
Etymology | Named after Dr. Angel Chua Alcala (b. 1929), biologist and herpetologist who has studied the reptiles and amphibians of the Philippines for 50 years, mostly in collaboration with Walter C. Brown. |
