Type locality: “at the foot of Nawlabú Hill, east of Tavoy, in evergreen forest, at an elevation of about 1,500 feet”, “provincia Tenasserim Burmania, hard procul ab urbe Tavoy” fide Blanford 1878)

CommentSynonymy: WALL (1909) thought that the Hydrophobus davisonii of SCLATER is actually Dryocalamus gracilis.

Distribution: reports from China are probably in error. Smith (1943), for instance, mentions “Cochin China”, a name used by the French for the southernmost part of Vietnam.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after William Ruxton Davison (d. 1893), an ornithologist and curator, Raffles Museum, Singapore (1887-1893).
