Type locality: “neighbourhood of Mussoorie, Himalayas, at an altitude of 6,100 feet” [= Mussoorie, Uttar Pradesh, N India, 30°27’N, 78°04’E, elevation 1900 m].

Diagnosis | Description: Snout projecting beyond the lower jaw; posterior nasal distinctly smaller than the anterior; loreal extensively in contact with the internasal, not touching the eye (united with the prefrontal in the type); a preocular; temporals 1+2 or 2 + 3; 8 supralabials; anterior genials larger than the posterior. Scales in 17; 17 ; 15 rows, smooth. V. 163-187, feebly angulate laterally; C. 48-56; A. 2.
The hemipenis can be divided into two parts, a distal transversely flounced portion and a proximal in which there are a few, very large spines.
Coloration: Dark brown or chocolate above, with a network of white lines, the light colour being confined to tbe edges and tips of the scales; uniform white below or the ventrals edged with brown (Smith 1943: 263). |
