TypesHolotype: MZUSP 7722, an adult male (Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de Sao Paulo) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A species having the characters of the genus Vanzoia, but differing from V. klugei in having more numerous preanal pores (7 vs 3-5); escutcheon not involving shank, but large on abdomen; no porelike escutcheon scales following preanal pores (Smith et al. 1977: 199). 
CommentSouth American Lygodactylus presumably resulted from a single trans-Atlantic dispersal event 29 Mya (Lanna et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Ralph M. Wetzel, “in recognition of his pioneering efforts to open the Chaco Boreal of Paraguay to study of its modern vertebrate fauna”.
