CommentSynonymy: WERMUTH 1965: 80 listed this species as a synonym of Lygodactylus angolensis, citing LOVERIDGE 1947: 207.

Type not in South Africa fide SAMA catalog (Anonymous 1958). 
EtymologyNamed after Major James Stevenson-Hamilton (1867-1957), who is considered to be the father of South Africa's Kruger National Park.
