Type locality: “Isthme de Darien” [= Daríen Province, Panama].

Holotype: UMMZ 57917 [gaigeae] 
CommentSynonymy and subspecies: has been considered as a subspecies of Mastigodryas melanolomus.

Distribution: not in Ecuador fide Omar Torres-Carvajal, pers. comm., 8 Sep 2016. reports from Ecuador are M. melanolomus.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018).
