Comment | Venomous! Synonymy: after Nascimento et al. 2024. Distribution: See map in Nascimento et al. 2024: Fig. 11 Similar species: Micrurus bonita and Micrurus anibal are closely related to M. ibiboboca and may be subspecies of that species. Even though their hemipenes looks different, they are morphologically very similar. |
Etymology | Named after Anibal Rafael Melgarejo Gimenez, a Uruguayan herpetologist and toxicologist based in Brazil, who contributed to the studies of Brazilian snakes, including coral snakes. |
