CommentType species: Emys berdmorei BLYTH 1859 is the type species of the genus Morenia GRAY 1870: 62 (non Morenia AMEGHINO 1886, a genus of fossil rodent)

EtymologyFrom lat. ocellus = diminuitive of oculus: eye; with ocellated patches.
