DiagnosisOriginal description: “Nel lavoro riguardante alcuni rettili ed anfibi del SE Arabia, il Parker (') descrivendo quattro Naje faceva notare come esse avessero caratteri un po' diversi da quelli delle tipiche rappresentanti della specie N. haie, ed aggiungeva inoltre che altro materiale dell' Arabia avrebbe permesso di riconoscere una distinta razza. Gli esemplari dei quali nell' annessa tabella espongo alcuni caratteri salienti confermano l'opinione del Parker. In essi infatti si nota che le squame intorno al collo sono in numero eguale a quelle intorno alla metà del corpo, le ventrali sono sempre in numero più alto di quello delle Naja haje africane ed anche le squame sub caudali, pur non raggiungendo egual numero che negli esemplari descritti dal Parker (80), sono pur sempre nella media più numerosa che nelle medie osservate nelle comuni N. haje africane.
Uno degli esemplari inoltre, quello contraddistinto con la lettera E, ha varie subcaudali indivise (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 17) carattere questo riscontrato dal Parker in tre dei quattro esemplari esaminati, ed ha (forse può attribuirsi ad anomalia) la terza labiale largamente in contatto con l'occhio.
Per ciò che riguarda la colorazione; cinque esemplari diversificano assai l'uno dall'altro. Quello alla lettera C è nelle parti superiori di colore giallo ocra con le squame orlate di bruno e con la pelle fra le squame nera. Via via che ci si avvicina alla estremità posteriore del corpo le squame divengono sempre più scure sino ad assumere una tinta bruno nera sulla coda. La testa, superiormente ed inferiormente, ed il collo, sono bruno verdastri; si osserva solo una macchia giallastra dai contorni non precisi sul primo paio di mentali.
Le parti inferiori sono marroni verdastre uniformi, più scure nella parte anteriore del corpo. Ai lati, le ventrali, dopo un primo breve tratto, hanno il colore giallastro delle parti superiori.
L' esemplare alla lettera D ha le parti superiori grigio verdastre, più scure lungo la linea vertebrale e nella parte anteriore del corpo; ciascuna squama è orlata posteriormente di bruno e bruno nera è la pelle. La testa, nella parte superiore, è bruno verdastra, le labiali e le loreali sono giallastre con macchie verdi dal contorno mal definito; la gola è giallastra. Le ventrali in un primo tratto sono del tutto brune come la testa, poi il bruno si attenua come intensità e si restringe alla parte centrale. Sulla coda si hanno macchie continue alternate, una a destra una a sinistra, che formano una striscia centrale.
L'esemplare alla lettera B è superiormente di colore verdastro giallognolo uniforme, più scuro sulla coda. Le parti inferiori sono colorate come nell'esemplare alla lettera D.
L'esemplare alla lettera A è nelle' parti superiori grigiastro chiarissimo color sabbia, inferiormente gialliccio biancastro senza macchie.
L' esemplare alla lettera E è nelle parti superiori verdastro bruno assai più scuro sulla testa, sul collo, Bull' ultima parte del tronco e della coda, più chiaro sui lati. Le squame ventrali sono brune uniformemente; l'intensità del colore va scemando dal collo alla squama anale; questa, il mento e la gola sono giallicce. Le labiali inferiori sono brune con macchie giallicce sfumate ai margini.” (Scortecci 1932: 47).

Subspecies: Naja haje anchietae has been considered as a subspecies of Naja annulifera (which was previously considered as a subspecies of Naja haje).
