| Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A large and racine species of Oedura distinguished from all others by the following characteristics. It differs from all species except 0. marmorata and O. castelnaui by its colouration and back pattern. It is distinguished from these species by its very slim build, long tapered tail and long legs. Its toes are very long and thin and are only terminally dilated, whereas, those of O. marmorata and O. castelnaui are dilated along their length. This feature is a reflection of the digital scalation, for O. gracilis has two round apical plates followed by one or two pairs of large round divided subdigital plates. The following 6 or 7 subdigital plates are smaller oval and undivided. In O. marmorata and O. castelnaui the two large round apical plates are followed by four pairs of large rounded subdigital plates of similar size, and then by two undivided plates. (King 1985) |
