Type locality: "Pegu," [southern Myanmar].

TypesSyntypes: BMNH 1946.1.4.15, 1946.1.4.16, 1946.1.4.17, 1946.1.4.18, and 1946.1.4.19, four males, largest one 381 mm, and a 330 mm gravid female (W. Theobald).

EtymologyNamed after Latin cruentus, spotted with blood, bloody, stained, apparently for the red subcaudal scales.
