Limb morphology: : hindlimbs only (reduced).

Type Species: Pygopus striatus SPIX 1824 is the type species of the genus Ophiodes WAGLER 1828. Content (Ophiodes sensu Schools & Hedges 2021): Six species: Ophiodes enso, O. fragilis, O. intermedius, O. luciae, O. striatus, and O. vertebralis.

Distribution: Not corrected for the split of O. striatus and O. fragilis. Not in Argentina fide AVILA et al. 2010. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin striatus, provided with channels; grooves; wrinkles. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)

The genus was named after Greek ophis (ὄφις), snake or serpent.+ Greek -odes (-οδες), suffix for likeness.
