DistributionMexico (San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Veracruz ?)

Type locality: "Seven miles south of Valles, San Luis Potosi, Mexico."
Reproductionovovivparous (inferred from other members of the genus)
TypesHolotype: LSUM 4886, female (Louisiana State Univ. Mus. Zool.)
DiagnosisDiagnosis: “An Ophisaurus differing from other North American members of the genus by the following characters taken in combination: the whitish markings on the dorsal scales occupy the edges rather than the centers of the scales, and there are no vertical white bars in the neck region. [...] The type is remarkably similar to O. ventralis, the only distinguishing character that I have been able to find being the absence of vertical neck bars in the Mexican form.” (McConkey 1955).
CommentKnown from only 4 specimens (BRYSON & GRAHAM 2010).
EtymologyThe specific epithet is composed of the Latin words in, meaning "not" and comptus meaning "neat," which in combination allude to being unadorned or unkempt, probably in reference to the absence of neck bars (Lemos-Espinal & Dixon 2013).
