DiagnosisDiagnosis: An Ophisaurus differing from other North American members of the genus in that one or more upper labials of each side are not separated from the orbit by lorilabials, and in that thd scales along the lateral fold number 97 or less [McConkey 1954: 143]

EtymologyNamed after Latin compressus, press/squeeze together. [“...The body is higher than wide, and the dorsal surface is narrow roofshaped...”].
