Type locality: Kumejima Island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.

Conservation: This species is critically endangered in Japan (Ota 2000).

Habitat: aquatic, inhabiting flowing streams.

Diet: fishes, frogs, tadpoles, freshwater shrimp and earthworms.

EtymologyNamed after Kiyotasu Kikuzato, the collector of the holotype.
