Type locality: Kumejima Island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesHolotype: URJ 1, a 533 mm male (K. Kikuzato, 15 Sept. 1956). 
Diagnosis 
CommentNot listed in BROWN & LEVITON 1961.

This species is critically endangered in Japan (Ota 2000).

Habitat: aquatic, inhabiting flowing streams.

Diet: fishes, frogs, tadpoles, freshwater shrimp and earthworms.

Behavior: nocturnal 
EtymologyNamed after Kiyotasu Kikuzato, the collector of the holotype.
