Type species: Tapinophis latouchii BOULENGER 1899: 164 is the type species of the genus Tapinophis BOULENGER 1899. 
EtymologyNamed after John David Digues La Touche (1861-1935), a French-born and English-educated naturalist who worked as Inspector of Customs in China (1882-1921).
