Diagnosis | Diagnosis (melanchrous): A subspecies of D. costatus characterized by large size (males to 127 mm snout-vent length, females to 116 mm), unpatterned or barely clouded throats, angular subocular usually between supralabials 6 and 7 or lower (85.3%), and dorsal pattern usually of widely spaced herringbones (Fig. 11).
