Type locality: Mahasoa forest (pitfall camp), 17.29769° S, 48.70199° E, 1032 m elevation, near Ambatodisakoana village, central eastern Madagascar.  
Reproductionoviparous (phylogenetic imputation, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesHolotype: ZSM 1810/2008 (field number DRV05711), adult female, collected on 13 February 2008, by D. R. Vieites, M. Vences, P. Bora, C. Patton and J. Patton. 
Diagnosis 
CommentParacontias fasika mainly differs from P. kankana by 16 scale rows around midbody (versus 21) , 46 presacral vertebrae ( versus 59), an hourglass-shaped frontal scal e (versus bell-shaped), and the nostril being in contact with first supral abial and loreal (versus in contact with first supral abial only). 
EtymologyThe specific name is derived from the Malagasy word "kankana" meaning worm, and refers to the worm-like body shape. The name is used as an invariable noun in apposition to the generic name.
