Diagnosis | DIAGNOSIS (genus): Paradelma differs from all other pygopodid genera in possessing the following combination of character states: a) four or five loreal scales, b) five anterior orbital scales, c) four frontal scales, d) usually three interorbital scales, c) ventrals in males average 117.3, in females 123.5, f) almost always 18 midbody scale rows, g) body scales smooth, h) four preanal pores, i) two preanal scales, j) postnuchal band conspicuous (KLUGE 1974: 144). Comment | Limb morphology: Limbless. Taxonomy: Kluge 1976 and Jennings et al. 2003 have also placed the monotypic genus Paradelma within Pygopus. Type species: Delma orientalis GÜNTHER 1876 is the type species of the genus Paradelma KINGHORN 1926. |
