Etymology | Named after Latin, from Ancient Greek, mélas = “black” + gastḗr = “belly”, meaning "having a black belly."; a reference to mainly black ventral scales. P. m. marojejyensis was named after the type locality [mountain range of Marojejy in the north-east of Madagascar] The genus was named after its similarity to the genus Rhadinaea, from Greek παρά (pará = “beyond, beside”). |
