DiagnosisDiagnosis: P. guibeae is a moderate sized gecko (max. S-V 60 mm), differing from P. androyensis, pictus and bastardi by having nostril in contact with rostral and first labial; from P. gracilis and oviceps by having dorsal tubercles arranged in regular rows; from P. sanctijohannis by having none or one granule separating supranasals behind rostral; from P. homalorhinus by having 16 or fewer fourth toe lamellae and 92 or fewer longitudinal ventral scales; from P. stumpffi, its closest relative, by having 14 or fewer midorbital scales (17+ in stumpffi), 17 or fewer third labial snout scales (19+ in stumpffi), 8 or fewer nostril to eye scales (10+ in stumpffi), 38 or more transverse ventral scales (35 or fewer in stumpffi), 83 or more longitudinal ventral scales (79 or fewer in stumpffi) (Dixon & Kroll 1974). 
CommentSYNONYMY: Paroedura guibeae has been synonymized with Paroedura bastardi by Raxworthy and Nussbaum (2000) but revalidated by Miralles et al. 2021, who, however, do not provide any (updated) details on its diagnosis.

EtymologyParoedura guibei has been named after Mr. Jean Guibé. Michels and Bauer (2004) emended the name to guibei because this species was originally dedicated to Mr. (not Ms.) Jean Guibé. Miralles et al. 2021 consider this emendation as an unjustified emendation according to the articles 33.2 and 33.4 (ICZN 1999; see also Dubois 2007 for this particular case) and for this reason they retain the original spelling.
