Diagnosis 
CommentLacerta capensis A. SMITH, 1938 is preoccupied by Lacerta capensis SPARRMANN, 1783 (= Varanus n. niloticus), fide MERTENS 1955. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin latus, wide, broad; spacious, extensive + Latin -ceps, -headed.
