Diagnosis
Comment	Synonymy: Considered a synonym of Pelusios castaneus by Wermuth and Mertens (1977: 117). The recognition of the weakly differentiated P. castaneus and P. chapini as full species is doubtful fide Fritz et al. (2010). Distribution: For maps see TTWG 2014 and Kindler et al. 2015. Habitat: freshwater (Lakes, quiet rivers)
Etymology	Named after Dr. James Paul Chapin (1889-1964), an American ornithologist and co-leader ofthe Lang-Chapin expedition, which made the first comprehensive biological survey of the Belgian Congo (1909-1915).
