Type locality: Rosario de la Frontera, Salta province, Argentina

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Species similar to P. cuyanus, differing mainly, by the presence of black dots widespread on dorsal side, sometimes disposed in longitudinal stripes, or densely restricted to vertebral row (vs. dots absent, if present in vertebral row, with few spaced dots); head fully black, dorsally and ventrally, usually anterior also (vs. black only on pileus with snout immaculate ocher); reddish on vertebral zone, becoming ocher at lower sides (vs. fully ocher dorsally); venter yellowish (vs. whitish); tail fully cylindrical (vs. angled posterior); and labial shields, black (vs. light). CommentSynonymy: Lema 2005 synonymized Elapomorphus punctatus with Elapomorphus tricolor and assigned all Brazilian records of P. tricolor. Martins and Lema 2017 revalidated punctatus.
