Type locality: Huilla, Angola (restricted by Bogert 1940).

TypesSyntypes: lost; there were 3 specimens, 2 in MBL (Lisbon), a male and female (J.A. d’Anchieta, 1871) [Huilla], and MBL, a female (Hopffer, 1871) [Cacheu], longest syntype 710 mm, destroyed by fire 18 March 1978; other specimens: MCZ (type status unclear)

CommentDistribution: Has been erroneously listed for Benin but does not occur there (Hughes 2013).

Habitat: fully arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyThe Latin ornata, -us, = decorated" or "ornamented," refers to the ornate coloration.
