Subspecies
Common Names
SynonymStenophis (Phisalixella) tulearensis DOMERGUE 1995
Phisalixella tulearensis — NAGY et al. 2010
DistributionMadagascar (forêt de Ankarafantsika, région de Tulear)

Type locality: Ampijoroa
Reproductionoviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022)
TypesHolotype: MNHN-RA 1988.0319 (wrongly given in the original description as 1988.379, I. Ineich, pers. comm. 30 Aug 2018)
DiagnosisDiagnosis: The species was described from western and south-western Madagascar. Exact distribution is unknown, probably between Ankarafantsika and Toliara according Domergue (1995). In its external morphology P. tulearensis is similar to P. variabilis, both in mensural and meristic features. The only known character differentiating these two species is the higher number of ventral scales in P. tulearensis (257–278 vs. 244–264 in P. variabilis) [from NAGY et al.2 010].
CommentSynonymy: VENCES et al. 2004 synonymized Stenophis (Phisalixella) tulearensis DOMERGUE 1994 with Stenophis variabilis (now Phisalixella variabilis). NAGY et al. 2010 revalidated tulearensis. WALLACH et al. 2014: 675 maintain tulearensis as synonym of Stenophis variabilis.

Habitat: fully arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018).
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
