EtymologyNamed after Latin inter, between, within; at intervals + S. Andes, cordillera in western South America, from a pre-Hispanic people in the Jauja region (Junín, Peru) that gave the mountain range its name and Latin -inus, having the nature or condition of. [“...This species is an inhabitant of the Chinchipe, Maranon, and Utcubamba river valleys of the departments of Amazonas and Cajamarca, Peru...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
