Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Bogertia lutzae LOVERIDGE 1941 is the type species of the genus Bogertia LOVERIDGE 1941. Bogertia has been synonymized with Phyllopezus by GAMBLE et al. 2011 as Bogertia was found to be nested within Phyllopezus in their phylogenetic analysis. 
EtymologyNamed after the collector of the types, Bertha Lutz (1894-1976), Brazilian herpetologist and advocate of women’s rights. See Kennedy 1977 for a short biography.

The genus Bogertia was named after Charles Mitchill Bogert (1908-1992), former curator of the Department of Herpetology of the American Museum of Natural History.
