DistributionPhilippines (abdictus: Mindanao, Camiguin, Bohol; aquilonius: S Luzon, Polillo, Camiguin Sur).

aquilonius: Luzon; Type locality: Ylinguin Valley near Subic Bay, Luzon Island

abdictus: Philippines (Luzon); Type locality: Mt. Mambajao, Camiguin Island, elevation 500 m.
Reproductionoviparous (phylogenetic imputation, fide Zimin et al. 2022)
TypesHolotype: CAS-SUR 28341, paratype: ZMUC (abdictus)
Holotype: CAS 15444 [aquilonius]
DiagnosisDiagnosis: This relatively large Sphenomorphus may be differentiated from the other Philippine species of the jagoricoxi complex (Group 5) on the basis of the following combination of characters: (1) frontoparietals distinct (not fused), which distinguishes it from S. coxi; (2) low number of subdigital lamellae (19-26, mean 22.8) and the lack of 2 very prominent dark bars on the labials beneath the eye, which separate it from S. jagori; (3) general color pattern and 4 instead of 5 large supraoculars (this subspecies only), which distinguish it from S. llanosi of the southern islands (see Tables 15 and 17). (Brown & Alcala 1980)

Comment
EtymologyNamed for the fact that this species was not recognized as being distinct from S. jagori for a long time (abdictus means “hidden” or “concealed”.).

The name aquilonius is in reference to the fact that this subspecies is found in the northern part of the archipelago.
