Etymology: not given in original description. 
EtymologyThompson doesn’t give a derivation for the name. However, the species is described as being allied to marginatus. The types of marginatus were collected by William Stimpson (1832-1872), chief zoologist of the North Pacific Exploring Expedition of 1853-56, led by Captain John Rodgers.
