Distribution | Greece (Crete and satellite islands) Type locality: (as in Wettstein 1952) Kisamo Kastelli, nordwestliches Kreta. |
Reproduction | oviparous |
Types | Holotype: NMW, male (Naturhistorisches Museum in Wien) 8272; O. WETTSTEIN leg., 22. IV. 1942, (Tiedemann et al., 1994). |
Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Differs from P. erhardii in few (<7) and discontinuous supraciliary granules. Differs from P. peloponnesiaca in smaller SVL (see Table 1 in LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008) and a combination of pholidotic characters (fewer femoral pores, fewer subdigital lamellae, and more temporal scales, see Table 3 in LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008). |
Comment | Synonymy: LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008 synonymize many subspecies of P. erhardii with P. cretensis without much justification. The taxonomic conclusions therefore have to be taken with caution. Note that the tables in LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008 are difficult to read as they do not explain the abbreviations and Figure 2 may also indicate clinal variation. |
Etymology | Named after the type locality on Crete. |
