Distribution: Not listed for Togo by Segniagbeto et al. 2012. Probably occurs in the Congo too (TRAPE & ROUX-ESTÈVE 1995). Not recorded from Gabon fide PAUWELS & VANDE WEGHE 2008 but its presence is possible based on records in neighboring countries. Not in Benin fide ULLENBRUCH et al. 2010. Has been erroneously listed for Benin but does not occur there (Hughes 2013). P. g. schmidti may or may not be in present day Gabon and it’s unclear where the type was collected (O. Pauwels, pers. comm., 25 Apr 2019).

Type species: Elapomorphus gabonensis DUMÉRIL 1856 is the type species of the genus Miodon DUMÉRIL 1856. Boulenger 1896 included 5 species in the genus (acanthias, collaris, gabonensis, notatus, neuwiedii).
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
