Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A medium-sized member of the Pristurus carteri group (up to 52 mm from snout to vent); snout elongated, bluntly or acutely pointed; mental shorter than rostral and lips turned down- wards anteriorly, or not; axillary mite pockets often large; scattered enlarged scales on flanks absent or very weakly developed; 9-12 lamellae under first hind toe, 16-21 beneath fourth. Tail usually more than 90% of snout-vent distance in males, the tip quite pointed, its upper crest fairly homogeneous; autotomy and regeneration usually taking place only at the base. Quite large grey spots usually present on sides of throat; a strong dark collar present in both sexes; usually seven (occasionally six) dark areas, which may be divided, on back from neck to vent, one of them at the level of the forelegs and three or four between the pairs of limbs. Comment | Variation: coloration in alcohol quite variable with unpatterned to strongly patterned specimens (NMW specimens). |
Etymology | The species is named after the Latin word collaris meaning collar (Lemos-Espinal & Dixon 2013). |
