Diagnosis	Diagnosis: “This subspecies may be distinguished from the other three subspecies by a smaller number of dorsal blotches, fewer caudals, and a larger number of scale rows on the anterior and posterior parts of the body.” (Dowling 1952)

Etymology	From the Greek phaiós meaning gray in allusion to its coloration grayish tan.
