DistributionAustralia (higher mountain ranges of NE Victoria; according to map in Cogger 1994 also in E New South Wales and on Tasmania)

Type locality: probably South Australia  
Reproductionovovivparous<br /><br />Hybridization: Pseudemoia cryodroma, P. entrecasteauxii and P. pagenstecheri hybridise (Haines et al. 2016). 
TypesNeotype: NMV D50902, an adult male, 9-6 km ESE of Rockbank (37°44'S, 144°39'E), Victoria, collected on 8 July 1977, by M. Hutchinson and G. Brow, designated by Hutchinson & Donnellan 1992. Holotype originally in WNS = MWNH, lost when forwarded to platemaker in Frankfurt (Rawlinson, cited by Cogger 1983), from '?Süd-Australien".

EtymologyNamed after Dr. Heinrich Alexander Pagenstecher (1825-1889), a physician, zoologist, and comparative anatomist. He taught at the Universitat Heidelberg (1856), before becoming Professor of Zoology there (1865).
