Type locality: Brandy Creek, Victoria (original description cites Brandy Creek and Dandenong Ranges, Victoria).  
TypesLectotype: NMV D1824 (formerly 56193), designated by Coventry (1970).
Holotype: AMS R9745, from Mt. Kosciusko, 5, 500 ft, N. S. W. [weekesae] 
CommentType species: Lygosoma (Emoa) spenceri LUCAS & FROST 1894: 81 is the type species of the genus Pseudemoia FUHN 1967. 
EtymologyNamed after Sir WaIter Baldwin Spencer (1860-1929), an explorer, biologist, anthropologist, zoologist, and patron of the arts. He went to Australia to become the first Professor of Biology, University of Melbourne (1887-1919), and Director of the Natural History Museum, Melbourne.
