Etymology | Named after Latin flavus, golden yellow, reddish yellow, flaxen-colored, blonde + Latin virgatus, that has bars or bands of colour, streaked, striped. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
The genus was named after Greek ptychos (πτυχός, from πτύξ), fold, leaf, layer, plate + Greek ophis (ὄφις), serpent. |
